Why does my baby Tree Toed Box Turtle seem ill/scared?

Question: Two weeks ago I bought a 4-month Three-toed Box Turtle. When I got the order, he had some reservations of my presence, and be a little shy. Still he ate her to and from the day I got it, even my hand if I was diligent.

My Map turtles AREN'T BASKING!?

There are two sub-species:

Northwestern Pond Turtle (Clemmys marmorata marmorata) and

Southwestern Pond Turtle (Clemmys marmorata pallida)
