Very few people apply under-gravel filters (WMU) in their tanks spa today. As liverock was introduced for use in tank of sea water and many other types of filters (such as skimmers, wet / dry, fluidized bed filters), using UGF has dropped considerably.
Depending on the variety of configuring your plan supported, only fish or coral, we would be satisfied with the kind assistance as well to remove from your system.

For a single fish without liverock I agree with the use of a wet / dry filtration system to clarify or fluidized bed for your biological infiltrate dominant reservoir. You can also use a sieve filter cartridge and also died on the chemical tank.I would also push the use of a skimmer....
