What to do about my intake tube?

I bought a 3 gallon tank of days ago a link to my platy fry. It has a filter and heater. But the intake tube filter is a way of emotion. Well, so much that the FRY did sucked. But I can not keep it like this forever. I am today to tomorrow stylish pet for a foam or sponge and put it around the intake tube so that the fish are not sucked. Is this an appropriate goal?
